Canyoning? Canyoneering?…how about FUN! – July 11, 2009
Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
We were not exactly sure of the proper name to call our adventure Saturday morning, but we knew we had a great time! Walking through waterfalls of the Rainforest and taking in the amazing scenery, rappelling down 100 foot drops, and jumping into small pools were just a few of the things this adventure included. The water was cold, but the day was beautiful and we had great guides that really knew what they were doing. They had a passion for the sport that provided us with a safe and super fun time. This is an activity that everyone can enjoy!

Soaring the Canopy – July 10, 2009
Monday, July 20th, 2009
Early Friday morning we were off to go ziplining. Gliding 600 feet over the jungle floor above the trees, while speeding on a 2000 foot cable is something you don’t want to miss! The views were amazing! As I was zooming over the trees, I could see the beautiful Lake Arenal in the distance and not to mention the numerous trees of the Costa Rican Rain Forest I was flying over. The wind in your face and the feeling of flying makes this experience quite the adventure! Definitely something that I would do again – Nikki

Scouting possible service project – July 8, 2009
Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Today we looked at a school in the village of Colonia Libertad in northeastern Costa Rica. This small two-room school has 59 students and four teachers. The school sits on a fenced lot that includes the school, lunchroom building, a makeshift soccer field with no goals, and only four swings. Looking at the school as we pulled up, right away I could tell something was missing. “Where do the students play?” is a question I asked myself.
Learning about the school and its students gave us many ideas as to how PLAY it Forward could improve the lives of these children and leave a lasting impression on the community. Girls are the majority in this small school and while the boys attempt to play soccer on the dirt field, they don’t have much to do during recess. PLAY it Forward is looking to put together a project that includes building a playhouse and/or other activity equipment for the students to enjoy together. -

La Finca in Costa Rica – July 7, 2009
Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Our first night in Costa Rica was at a beautiful farm in Colonia Libertad. I was awed by the beauty of the farm as we drove through. The scenery was breathtaking with beautiful flowers and a pristine, tropical landscape sitting in a valley surrounded by volcanoes. The farm is sustainable through its macadamia trees and flowers in an eco-friendly way. They are a great asset to the community in the way of providing jobs and support. As if being amazed by the beauty of the place was not enough, learning more about the farm and how they incorporate the community made me realize what a perfect spot this was for a PLAY it Forward adventure. -Nikki
