PERU AMAZON JUNGLE

Explore the western Amazon Jungle while based at a jungle lodge on the Tahuayo River.

Volunteer in the village of Chino by building desks and chairs at their local school. Participate in activities only possible in the Amazon: jungle hiking, piranha fishing, swimming in Dolphin Lake and canoeing a flooded forest. End this highly cultural adventure by experiencing the annual Festival of San Juan.

Sample 7-day itinerary

Day 1: Iquitos – Arrive in Iquitos by 1pm, boat ride to jungle lodge, visit village of Esperanza on the way

Day 2: Amazon – Service in Chino village building school furniture for children

Day 3: Amazon - Complete service, closing ceremony minga, transfer to research lodge

Day 4: Amazon - Jungle hike, swim in Dolphin lake, canoe a flooded forest

Day 5: Amazon - Piranha fishing, return to main lodge, visit from native shaman

Day 6: Amazon - Hike/zipline, San Juan Festival in Chino, farewell fiesta

Day 7: Iquitos/Lima – Visit to Chino market, return to Iquitos, fly to Lima around 5pm, depart for home

Group size: 8 minimum, 15 maximum – group sizes are kept small, intimate and eco-friendly

Transportation: Plane, van, boat

Accommodations: You can expect a comfortable jungle lodge with shared bathrooms and family style dining

Activity Level: Level 2 – a low to moderate level of physical fitness ability due to humid climate conditions

Culture Shock: Level 2 – a low to moderate level of culture shock

Comfort Level: Level 4 – a moderate to high level of comfort provided by the jungle lodge

Tour Cost

Land cost: $1995.00 USD

Inclusions: Airport pickup, transportation, translation, accommodations, most meals, equipment for outdoor activities, materials associated with volunteer service project.

Exclusions: International airfare, in-country airfare to Iquitos, travel insurance, some meals, guide/staff tips, alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, souvenirs.
