MACHU PICCHU

An Andean outdoor adventure, Machu Picchu, and volunteering to help victims of the January 2010 mudslides… check this one off your bucket list!

With Cusco as our gateway, we’ll begin our outdoor adventure in a small villlage called Taray.  Families in Taray are left homeless after mudslides hit in January 2010.  PLAY it Forward has been invited to re-build farms and school furniture to help this village get back on their feet.  Acclimate in Taray before setting out on a 3-day Weavers Trek through the Andes Mountains.  Stop over in Peruvian weaving communities to get a taste of the culture and first-hand look at intricately woven textiles.  In the majority of Peru’s towns and villages the weaving tradition is slowly being lost as cheaper synthetic fabrics are being introduced.  Some important communities in the Cordillera Urubamba such as Willoq, Patacancha, Qelcanca and Cachin are trying to keep the weaving techniques alive by encouraging the young people to maintain this tradition.  Your visit to these communities is important in supporting the textile tradition of Peru.  Fully supported by a climbing crew, you’ll be free to take in the sites, sounds and smells of the Peruvian Andes.

Take the backpackers train to Machu Picchu where you’ll end this adventure with a full day of exploring an ancient civilization.

This 9-day adventure offers a very all-encompassing Peruvian/Andean experience!  Don’t miss your chance to help out in this time of need.
